What’s the schedule?

Teams are matched to projects in Spring, Projects start in September and finish the following May.

How much time does a sponsor need to commit?

Expect for the sponsor liaison to spend about 1 hour per week meeting with the team, emailing the team or reviewing project work for the duration of the project

What types of projects work best?

Projects with real, meaningful potential for implementation are ideal but projects shouldn’t be urgent, mission-critical projects with imminent deadlines.

What fields do HUB projects cover?

Biomedical engineering, civil engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and multi-disciplinary projects with sub-specialties in each field.

Is there a sponsorship fee?

Yes, the University of Portland’s Shiley School of Engineering is a nonprofit organization. The Shiley Project HUB is self-supporting. Fees go to cover the cost of materials, travel expenses, faculty stipends and other logistics that support the overall capstone program. Contact us for more information.
