Fundamentals of Engineering Exam

What is the FE Exam?

The Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam is the first step to gaining Professional Engineer (PE) licensure. This credential proves professional accomplishments based on a national exam metric, offering an advantage to engineering graduates when job hunting.

The National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) organization develops and oversees this licensure process. It is recommended that engineering students take their FE exam while their university education materials are still fresh in their minds.

To encourage seniors to complete the FE exam, the NCEES organization offers free honor cords to wear to graduation to any senior who passes the exam prior to graduation! Students select a check box to opt in to this offer when taking the exam. UP participated in this program in 2024 for the first time, and had 15 students receive the cord!
