On-Ramp Summer Math Program

Who is this for?

Are you an incoming University of Portland student who needs to take calculus? Want a refresher on precalculus concepts before diving into college math? This program is designed to help bridge any gaps in your math background, introduce you to mathematical thinking at UP, and connect you with fellow students before the semester starts.

This course is open only to students whose major that require Calculus I (MTH 201):

  • Engineering
  • Mathematics
  • Physics
  • Chemistry & Biochemistry

What will you gain?

This free, five-week summer program strengthens your foundation in key mathematical concepts, including:

  • Exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions
  • Problem-solving strategies to boost persistence and confidence
  • Collaborative learning with your future classmates
  • A head start on college-level math expectations

The course combines self-study and group collaboration in a virtual setting, ensuring you develop both the knowledge and mindset needed for success in your upcoming math courses.

When & How?

  • June 25 – August 1
  • Wednesdays, 4:00 – 6:00 PM (Pacific Time)
  • Hybrid format:
    • Live online sessions (2 hours/week) for interactive learning
    • Flexible remote study at your own pace

 Why should you join?

By the end of five weeks, you'll feel more confident, better prepared, and connected with your UP community. Students who successfully complete the On Ramp program may retest to start in calculus rather than precalculus, shaving time off of their graduation plan.
