Ideal capstone projects involve real engineering challenges, include a design component and have a manageable scope. A faculty member helps identify an appropriate scope for a project
Projects should not be mission-critical or have imminent deadlines. However, students can provide significant value on leading edge projects that represent opportunities for industry but that do not yet have dedicated engineering resources within your organization
The primary purpose of the capstone projects is for student learning so there isn’t a guarantee that any final solution would be ready for implementation. It is important to note that while our students have significant capabilities to provide meaningful work on projects, they will not necessarily provide a guaranteed solution or deliverable (working code, market ready device, stamped or stamp ready drawings, etc.) by the end of their capstone project. Student project work should NOT be considered a stand-in (or less expensive option) for consulting services or in-house engineering
