Hello, my name is William Cloutier! I am a Computer Science and Mathematics double major at the University of Portland class of 2023. During my time at the University of Portland, I have had the wonderful opportunity to make many connections and to even work on captivating projects such as AI research and participating in the NASA Lunabotics competition! So, when the opportunity to join the Grand Challenges Scholars Program arose, I knew I had to accept it. I chose to join this program because I wanted to become a well-rounded individual who wasn’t trapped inside their little bubble of knowledge and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to broaden my horizons. I chose to specifically focus on the challenge of “Engineering the Tools for Scientific Discovery” as this challenge aligned with my interest of working on the frontier of technology all while being able to actively contribute something useful to society. There are so many problems out there in the world just waiting to be solved and, as a Grand Challenge Scholar, I feel confident in my abilities to rise up and face these challenges.
