Donald P. Shiley was born on January 19, 1920 (1-19-1920, or simply 1191920) and died on July 31, 2010 (7312010).
Thursday, January 19, 2012 marks Mr. Shiley's 92nd birthday. To celebrate his birthday and to recognize his generosity and commitment in supporting his alma mater, Dr. Aziz Inan has constructed this simple, recreational birthday gift for him involving some of his recent “numerically special” birthday numbers.
Donald’s 92nd birthday is very special because number 92 equals the middle two digits of his birth year 1920! (Also, 92 = 4 x 23 where these two numbers differ by 19, which corresponds to the day number of Donald’s birthday (19th of January)! Also, 23 equals the sum of the digits of 1191920!)
- Donald’s 91st birthday last year (2011) was also unique because it equaled to the reverses of both the day number of his birthday (19th of January) and the leftmost two digits of his birth year 1920!
- His 93rd birthday to occur in 2013 is interesting because 93 equals to the reverse of the sum of the leftmost and rightmost two digits of his birth year 1920 (that is, the reverse of {19+20})!
- His 94th birthday to occur in 2014 is also special because 2014 = 2 x 19 x 53 and double the reverse of the sum of these prime factors yields 94! (That is, twice the reverse of {2 + 19 + 53} = 94!) Also, interestingly enough, his full birthday 1191920 is divisible by 94! Also, 94 = 30 + 64 where 30 x 64 = 1920, his birth year!
- His 95th birthday in 2015 can be tied to his full birthday 1191920 as follows: If 1191920 is split into numbers 1, 19, 19 and 20, reverse of the sum of these four numbers equals 95! Also, if his birth year is split as 19 and 20, the product of these two numbers equals four times 95!
- His 96th birthday to occur in 2016 can be connected to his birth year since 96 equals half of the leftmost three digits of 1920 (that is, 192 / 2 = 96)! Also, 2016 = 21 x 96!
- His 97th birthday to occur in 2017 is also special because both 97 and 2017 are prime numbers! Also, the reverse of his birth year equals three times 97!
Thanks Donald for all you have done for all of us!
