Mechanical Engineering: Home
Our mechanical engineering program provides an excellent undergraduate education that stresses a basic understanding of engineering principles and how they are applied to the design, analysis, manufacturing, and testing of mechanical systems. An engineering education, based on a strong liberal arts foundation, prepares students to make contributions to the world guided by concerns for issues of justice and ethical behavior. To achieve the objectives of the mechanical engineering program at the University of Portland, faculty members focus on the areas of fluid mechanics, thermal systems, heating/ventilating/air conditioning, controls, design, experimental methods, materials, and manufacturing.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering is part of the School of Engineering, along with the Department of Civil Engineering and the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. It is accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). The curriculum ensures that graduates are well-rounded engineers. Technical electives in various specialties allow students to pursue their particular fields of interest.
