Electrical Engineering: Home
The electrical engineering program at University of Portland provides an undergraduate education that stresses a basic understanding of engineering principles and how they are applied to the design, analysis, implementation, and testing of electrical, electronic, and digital systems. An engineering education, based on a strong liberal arts foundation, prepares students to make contributions to the world guided by concerns for issues of justice and ethical behavior. To achieve the objectives of the electrical engineering program, faculty members focus on the areas of power, control, communication, digital signal processing, microwave, optical transmission, VLSI, analog electronics, computer architecture, operating systems, embedded systems, digital systems and computer vision.
The Department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science is part of the School of Engineering, along with the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the Department of Mechanical Engineering. It is accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). Two tracks of study are available in electrical engineering: an electrical track and a computer track. Courses in both tracks are the same for the first four semesters, but then diverge to allow students to focus more intently on specific interests. The curriculum ensures graduates are well-rounded engineers. Technical electives in various specialties are available for students to pursue their particular interests.
