Shiley School of Engineering: Entrepreneurship
For the United States to survive and continue its economic and political leadership in the world, we must see entrepreneurship as our central comparative advantage. Nothing else can give us the necessary leverage to remain an economic superpower. Nothing else will allow us to continue to enjoy our standard of living. Schramm, 2006
All undergraduate engineering & computer science students at the University of Portland practice innovation from day one in their First Year design course. They then have many opportunities in their upper-level design courses to develop innovative solutions to open-ended solutions. But, the University of Portland provides much more for the student in this regard with its award-winning Center for Entrepreneurship where students can become E-Scholars (undergraduates), compete in the $100K business challenge, and/or complete the Entrepreneurship Minor (undergraduates) or the Technology Entrepreneurship Certificate (graduate students).
In 2012-2013, five Shiley School of Engineering students are part of the University’s Entrepreneurial Scholars program.
