School of Engineering: Dean's Message

It is a pleasure to introduce you to the University of Portland's School of Engineering. With the material on our web site, we try to give you a good idea of what we do, as well as provide details of our degree programs, faculty, facilities, and some of the opportunities available to engineering and computer science students at UP. 

I have had the opportunity to be associated with several highly respected engineering schools. What sets our program apart from the crowd? For one thing, it is small class sizes and the close-knit and dedicated faculty--students and faculty get to know each other well. It is the constant evaluation we give our curriculum to make sure it provides a solid basis in the fundamentals of science and engineering, yet is relevant in a modern-day world. It is the great opportunities available--from design projects where students interact with professional firms and organizations, to the huge variety of cultural, educational, and just plain fun activities in the Portland area, to the possibility of overseas study in Europe, Japan, Latin America, or Australia. From day one as a freshman to graduation as a senior, you can feel the excitement and enthusiasm among the students and faculty.
