Computer Science: Prospective Students
What is it like being a computer science student at the University of Portland? The University is small, about the size of a large high school. Small classes provide ample opportunities for students and faculty to get to know each other. Faculty members, not teaching assistants, teach computer science classes, advise students, and oversee large course projects. Entering students take Introduction to Engineering — a hands-on course covering the design process, teamwork, writing, and presentations — and actually make working engineering devices. Senior year students work in teams on a year-long design project. For a more detailed description of courses see the computer science curriculum.
Come visit us and learn more. We welcome the chance to show you around campus, tour the engineering building, and talk with students and faculty. To make arrangements, contact the admissions office or the engineering program counselor, Kitty Harmon. You can also come watch the freshman design competition at the end of fall semester. Sit in on senior design project presentations in April.
The School of Engineering welcomes transfer students.
